So you want to volunteer in the Greater New Orleans Area?

Fantastic!!  We are here to help you!

The area of New Orleans and the Northshore are still, even four years after that infamous Hurricane Katrina, in the process of being rebuilt.  We focus our work on rehabbing houses that have been damaged by the storm.

A typical volunteer experience with PCO:
Volunteers usually come in groups, approximately 5 to 30 people – although we have had groups both small and much bigger.  They arrive on Sunday afternoon, settle into our facility, and get a good night’s rest.  On Monday morning, we gather at 7:30 to discuss the organization and the projects, and then we head out to sites (usually around 8:00-8:30).  Volunteers work Monday-Friday, about 8am-4:30pm.  Many groups will take off early one day a week to go into the city – a great opportunity for folks who may not visit otherwise to experience one of the nation’s most historic and interesting cities!  And then on Saturday mornings, groups pack up and head back to their “normal lives” – or, as the sign at the exit of the church parking lot says, back into the Mission Field.

Most of the work is the physical labor of rehabbing a house.  However, if you don’t feel comfortable sawing, mudding drywall, or installing windows, you can always offer to stay at the center during the day to cook!  Groups always love to come back to a warm, freshly prepared meal at the end of the day.  So keep in mind where skills and talents of your group lay as you contemplate your trip.

If this sounds like the volunteering experience you have been waiting for, send an email to volunteer@pcoslidell.org with the following information:
- your name
- the name of the group you are representing
- the number of people you expect to bring
- the dates you would like to come
The volunteer coordinator will get back to you, letting you know if those dates will work and sending you the paperwork necessary for your trip.

Feel free to check out our Google calender ahead of time (Calender) to see what other groups are coming, when, and how many.

Volunteering with PCO is a great opportunity to show the love of the Heavenly Creator to the people of the Greater New Orleans community.  Coming to serve others not only gives you a chance to make new friends, hone your construction skills, and visit the infamous Crescent City – but it is also a chance to make a difference in the lives of those who have been overlooked by the relief effort.

Won’t you come help make someone’s flooded house into a beauitful home again?
